The area boasts a variety of courses, both public and private, that offer various levels of difficulty. Whenever he visits Louisville, he makes sure that he visits the three courses below as they offer the best golfing experience in the area.

1. Cherokee Golf Course

Robert Mims thinks Memphis public golf courses could all take a clue from the Cherokee Golf Course, the best one in Louisville. Designed by the legendary Tom Bendelow and opened in 1904, the venerable Cherokee course is in surprisingly great condition for a course of its age. The course is rather short and tight, with 270-yard par-4 holes, and the hilly terrain requires a lot of precision off the tee. Most of the holes have no water hazards, instead relying on the rough to pose a challenge. Its wide fairways and location in the middle of the city make it a favorite haunt of Louisville golf enthusiasts.

2. Audubon Country Club

Also designed by Tom Bendelow, the 99-year-old Audubon Country Club golf course is one of the oldest private courses in Louisville. Whenever Robert Mims leaves Memphis to visit Kentucky, he always stops by Audubon to play with the friends he has made in the club through the years. The course itself is located on the outskirts of the city, and offers fantastic views of the surrounding metropolitan area. The greens and fairways are in immaculate condition, and strategically-placed bunkers always offer new challenges every time.

3. Polo Fields Golf & Country Club

While Robert Mims enjoys Memphis private clubs such as Quail Ridge, Louisville’s Polo Fields Golf & Country Club still occupies a place in his list of top golfing destinations. The course is always maintained well, and while the bunkers were going through renovation as of 2016, the newly-refurbished course promises more challenges. The fairways are just the right width and the greens are rather fast, forcing golfers to bring their top game all the time. The course is very scenic and the attendants are always helpful and polite, both of which make the Polo Fields one of Robert’s all-time favorite courses.
