Robert Mims Memphis: Louisville, Memphis, Kentucky Football News

Robert Mims, from Memphis, watches a lot of college football, especially whenever an SEC team takes the field. While Robert Mims is from Memphis, he is a huge fan of the Kentucky Wildcats. He acknowledges the great strides taken by the Memphis program in recent years. Today, he gives us the latest news from all three teams.

There are only four weeks left until bowl season starts, and we are slowly seeing how the College Football Playoff picture will look. Many teams in the middle of their conferences are still in contention for bowl berths, and the next few weeks are going to be very interesting for fans of Memphis, Louisville, and Kentucky.

1. Louisville

Robert Mims is from Memphis, so naturally he hates Louisville. However, it’s sad to see a once-proud program, once a dominating force in the ACC, languish in the middle of the pack. That the ACC is a very competitive conference to begin with is a foregone conclusion; Clemson and Miami (FL) are ranked #5 and #7 in the AP Poll, respectively, while # 3 Notre Dame has played several ACC opponents. Virginia Tech is also making an appearance at #17. The Cardinals could’ve easily gone 8-1 entering November, if not for late defensive blunders against NC State, Boston College, and Wake Forest. But if coach Bobby Petrino’s prior successes at Arkansas and WKU are any indication, better days (and maybe a bowl invite) are in sight for Louisville faithful.

2. Memphis

Robert Mims thinks Memphis could easily be a top-ten team. Instead, the CPF Selection committee put it at an underwhelming #22 this past week. One may chalk it up to a relatively weak schedule, but the Tigers have been very fun to watch, winning by 30 points or more against Connecticut and Tulane and edging UCLA 48-45 at the Liberty Bowl. Will the Tigers’ offensive firepower be enough to power them past the likes of Miami and Alabama, both known for playing tough defense? We may not know this season, but it looks like a New Year’s Six bowl appearance is close by.

3. Kentucky

Robert Mims is a Memphis resident, but his loyalties lie with the Kentucky Wildcats. While Kentucky is known more for their basketball team made of one-and-done players, the Wildcats are playing decent football this season. Their 6-3 record doesn’t reflect how close they have come to being 8-1 in SEC play, with their losses to Mississippi and Florida being decided in the fourth quarter. As it is, they sit 3rd in the very competitive SEC East, and with upcoming games against Vanderbilt and #1 Georgia, they could climb higher up the standings.
